Slow-cooked to tender perfection, this pulled pork is infused with spices and smoky flavor, making it the ultimate comfort food. Serve it on buns with coleslaw for a classic barbecue sandwich or enjoy it on its own. It’s a crowd-pleaser for any gathering!
Ingredients
- 8 lbs pork shoulder
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup apple juice
- 1/2 cup BBQ rub (Sweet Red Dirt and Dust Bowl)
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
Directions
- Rub the pork shoulder with BBQ rub and let it sit for 15 minutes (overnight is even better).
- Preheat your oven or smoker to 275°F (135°C). Use your favorite wood chunks for smoky flavor. Post Oak or pecan are my favorite woods.
- Place pork butt on grill and smoke until 180°F internal temperature. Spritz every hour after the first 2 hours with 50/50 apple juice and water.
- Transfer pork butt into a foil pan. Add chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and cover in foil. Smoke until the meat is tender around 195-205°F internal temperature.
- Let the pork butt rest for 2 hours in a foil pan covered. Shred the pork with two forks and mix it with its juices. Add a little more seasoning for extra flavor.
