This comforting dessert features layers of creamy vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, and crunchy vanilla wafers. It’s a nostalgic treat that’s easy to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser. Serve chilled for a delightful finish to any meal!
Ingredients
- 4 ripe bananas, unpeeled
- 1 box of vanilla wafer cookies
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 can condensed milk
- 1 block cream cheese
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- Whipped cream (for topping)
- Optional: caramel sauce or chocolate chips for garnish
Directions
- Preheat your grill to medium heat, around 350°F (176°C). You can use an oven, gas grill or a charcoal grill.
- Place the unpeeled bananas directly on the grill grates. Grill for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until the peels are blackened and the bananas are soft. Remove from the grill and let them cool slightly.
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually whisk in the milk, cream, and soft cream cheese until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly add a small amount of the hot milk mixture to the yolks, whisking constantly to temper the eggs. Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Peel the grilled bananas and slice them. In a serving dish or individual cups, layer vanilla wafers, grilled banana slices, and pudding. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of pudding on top.
- Cover the pudding with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
- Top with whipped cream before serving. Optionally, drizzle with caramel sauce or sprinkle with chocolate chips for extra flavor.
- Enjoy your delicious and smoky grilled banana pudding!
